MBOMBELA - The Marthie O’Callaghan Golf Day, which was recently held at the Mbombela Golf Club, was a huge success and a lot of fun was had by all.

Event organisers Elizabeth Bartie, Daleen Slabbert, Alichia Dalea and Dalene Minnaar said they were overwhelmed with the support they received from businesses and individuals from the Lowveld and surrounding areas.

The aim of the day was to raise funds for the treatment of Marthie O’Callaghan, who suffers from Motor Neuron Disease (MND), the same condition that claimed the life of Joost van der Westhuizen.

Up until November 2016, when the official diagnosis was made, this mother of two led an active lifestyle which included various sport-and-outdoor activities. Funds raised on the day will be used to help cover the costs of O’Callaghan's treatment.

“We would like to thank each and every person who donated, played and just supported our Marthie O’Callaghan golf day. You made a difference!” said Slabbert.

Elizabeth Bartie said a special thank you to Elaine Blignaut for giving the golfers from Gauteng a special rate at the guest house, A Tua Casa.
