OppiDam Musiekfees 2025 promises harmonious celebration at Vygeboom Dam
The line-up features an eclectic mix of artists, including Pieter Rischmuller (popularly known as Piet Pompies), Zaan Sonnekus, Doane Smith, Geraldene van Dyk, Voodoo Kudu, Andreas Rautenbach, Brian Wilkinson and Pieter Smith.
Their performances are expected to captivate audiences well into the night, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all attendees. While the festival proudly embraces its Afrikaans heritage, the universal language of music ensures that even English-speaking guests will find themselves immersed in the infectious rhythms and vibrant atmosphere.
Beyond the musical appeal, OppiDam provides a comprehensive range of amenities designed to enhance the festival experience. Attendees can enjoy the convenience of an on-site shop stocked with essentials such as bread, milk, ice, sweets and fishing tackle, removing any concerns about forgotten items. For those seeking a culinary break, the renowned Ararat Restaurant and bar offer a diverse menu, allowing guests to enjoy delicious meals without straying far from the festivities. This integration of comfort and entertainment ensures that festival-goers can fully immerse themselves in the event without logistical concerns.
Accommodation at OppiDam caters to a variety of preferences. In addition to the distinctive houseboats moored on the serene waters of Vygeboom Dam, there are self-catering units, caravan sites and a tented camp. For the weekend of the festival, Canvas Cottage tents will also be pitched, each sleeping two people. These tents include two stretchers with mattresses, fitted sheets, a side table, floor mat, and groundsheet. Guests are required to bring their own bedding (blanket and pillow), camping chairs, and a camp light.
Tickets are available online via Quicket. Early booking is advised to secure entry and accommodation.
For those wishing to explore beyond the festival grounds, the area offers a wealth of activities and natural attractions. Visitors can discover the ancient Sudwala Caves, take a scenic drive to the misty village of Kaapschehoop (a.k.a. Kaapsehoop), or unwind with nature walks and birdwatching in the surrounding hills. Local businesses and tourism operators are preparing to welcome the influx of visitors, anticipating a positive economic impact on the region. The festival not only showcases musical talent but also highlights Mpumalanga’s potential as a premier destination for cultural and leisure tourism.
