Police efforts yield positive results in various cases
WESTERN CAPE - Members of the Muizenberg SAPS Crime Prevention Unit acted on information today regarding the possible storage and selling of drugs in Vrygrond. They were led to a residence in Trevor Siljeur Rd where they discovered, after having conducted a search of the premises, 150 whole Mandrax tablets in a bedroom. A further search yielded 510 whole Mandrax tablets and 40 half ones buried in the back yard. The drugs have an undetermined value and were all confiscated.
A 30-year-old male suspect was subsequently arrested on a charge of drug dealing. He is expected to appear in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
The Nyanga SAPS arrested three suspects in three separate incidents during crime prevention duties in the Browns Farm area. The first incident took place yesterday afternoon, when they acted on information concerning a hijacking in Siyahlala informal settlement. Upon arrival at the scene, they apprehended a 23-year-old suspect, found in a hijacked VW Golf; however, the suspect’s accomplice managed to jump out of the vehicle when he saw the members approaching and fled the scene on foot.
Last night the Nyanga SAPS acted on information involving a vehicle with a trailer hitched to it, that had been reported stolen in Old Crossroads in May. A 30-year-old suspect was found in possession of the stolen trailer in Browns Farm, and was subsequently arrested.
In an unrelated incident, a 17-year-old suspect was apprehended yesterday after a robbery at a barber shop in Browns Farm. The complainant was in his house when he heard gun shots and saw two suspects entering his business, taking money and fleeing. The police are following up on all leads to arrest the second suspect.
The three arrested suspects above are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on charges that include the possession of a hijacked vehicle, the possession of stolen property, business robbery and attempted murder.
Members of the Provincial Integrated Team arrested a 50-year-old male suspect found in possession of several rounds of ammunition; 146 whole Xanax capsules and four half ones. He is expected to appear in court soon with charges of the possession of ammunition and drugs.
