Woman to appear in court on child neglect charges

Posted in News by Admin on 19 June, 2019 at 9:46 p.m.

MBOMBELA - A 34-year-old woman will appear in the Volksrust Magistrate’s Court tomorrow June 20, on charges of child neglect. The accused’s four children were captured on a video - made by a man who claims to be their uncle - roaming the streets unsupervised. The video has since gone viral.

The children, believed to be between the ages of three and 13, had apparently been left to their own devices in an unventilated shack by their mother, since early June this year.

The suspect was arrested in KaBokweni, after police had launched an investigation soon after the video had emerged.

The Provincial Commissioner for Police, Lt Gen Mondli Zuma, cautioned parents to take care of their children, especially in this day and age when they (children) are considered easy prey for criminals. Zuma advised parents to leave their children with family members or a responsible person, should they have to go away for some reason.
