Swartland Auctioneers shifts focus to pop-up auctions following move from Malmesbury branch

Western-Cape: Swartland Auctioneers recently vacated its long-standing premises in Malmesbury after the expiry of their lease. According to owner and auctioneer Gordon Bain, the decision was partly influenced by the landlord’s intention to repurpose the property for a new venture. “It was a natural point of transition,” Bain said, noting that the timing aligned with the company’s plans to explore new directions.

The business is now shifting its operational focus to pop-up auctions while continuing to serve clients without disruption. Much of the stock is currently packed and stored in containers, with the next major auction scheduled for July 11 and 12 in the Bellville area. Bain noted that recent sales had shown stronger interest in the Cape Town region than in Malmesbury, and Swartland Auctioneers would be prioritising that market going forward.

He also confirmed that consignments are not an issue and reassured the public that Swartland Auctioneers remains committed to its platform. “We’re not going anywhere,” he said, adding that while physical space is limited at present, the business is doing everything possible to remain operational and responsive.

Negotiations are underway to secure additional premises, including a dedicated auction site and a separate retail space. These are not expected to be housed at the same location but are part of a strategy to expand the company’s regional footprint.

While finalising these new arrangements remains a priority, Bain said the business would not be turning away clients in the meantime. “We’re doing our best to manage the transition without compromising service.”

He also hinted that something exciting is in development and encouraged customers to monitor group updates and social media. All future announcements and auction dates will be shared through those platforms.

Swartland Auctioneers extended its thanks to long-time supporters for their loyalty and patience during this period of change.
