Laerskool Barberton Primary was privileged to be among the select schools invited to perform at EchoFest 2025, hosted by the Mpumalanga Youth Choir at the breathtaking Sudwala Caves.

Held on May 16 and 17, this two-day celebration of music brought together school choirs from across the province, including schools from as far as Middelburg and Secunda.

EchoFest 2025 transformed the ancient caves into a living concert hall, with performances taking place in the natural rock amphitheatre. The setting offered a unique and unforgettable experience for both performers and audience members, who were treated to rich harmonies and youthful energy in one of Mpumalanga’s most iconic landmarks.

Laerskool Barberton Primary joined the stage on Friday, along with Hoërskool Secunda, Middelburg High School, Laerskool Laeveld, and HGH Sanggroep. The event was highlighted by performances from the Mpumalanga Youth Choir, who not only hosted the festival but also delivered the opening and closing numbers of the evening.

Saturday’s programme featured Hoërskool Volksrus, Laerskool Nelspruit, Laerskool Kragbron, and Lowveld High School, with the Mpumalanga Youth Choir once again providing the highlight performance. The choir continues to serve as a platform for nurturing musical excellence and regional pride.

EchoFest is not only a celebration of talent but also a fundraising initiative to support the Mpumalanga Youth Choir’s future projects. The inclusion of Laerskool Barberton Primary in this event is a reflection of the school’s growing reputation in the cultural and performing arts spheres.
