In the heart of Barberton, the New Barberton Christian Forum has been a beacon of compassion and service since its humble beginnings in 2008. Originally founded as a soup kitchen, the Forum has evolved into a vital support network for the town’s most vulnerable residents.

While the Forum does not serve full meals, it provides containers of soup and bread, along with carefully prepared food parcels. These parcels contain essential staples such as mielie meal, speckled beans, samp, rice, and soya or soup mix. For many recipients, this support makes a tangible difference during times of hardship.

According to Jenny Meerholz, one of the volunteers of the Forum, its ability to maintain this level of outreach is made possible by a committed circle of contributors. “Barberton Mines donates food items on a monthly basis, while Sunbake supports the effort by delivering 40 loaves of sliced bread each week,” she said. In addition, generous ongoing donations from local churches and individuals, as well as from schools like Laerskool Barberton Primary and Gateway Christian School, ensure that the Forum can sustain its activities.

Though specific committee members are not publicly listed, the Forum continues to operate from within Barberton, steadily building community connections. Their Facebook page shares regular updates on their work, offering a glimpse into the daily impact of their outreach.

Thanks to this network of faith-driven generosity, the New Barberton Christian Forum remains a quiet but steadfast presence in the De Kaap Valley, proof that consistent, small actions can bring meaningful change.
