Two suspects due in court for possession of body parts

MBOMBELA - Two men, aged 45 and 49, are expected to appear in the Eerstehoek Magistrate's Court today for possession of human body parts. The suspects were arrested yesterday in Elukwatini.

The arrest spiralled from an intelligence-driven operation that prompted the police to follow up on information regarding a red sedan on its way to Elukwatini, with its two occupants allegedly conveying human body parts.

The suspects’ vehicle was intercepted at the Lochiel-Nhlazatshe intersection, where the police thoroughly searched it and discovered a leg, placenta and a kneecap that had allegedly been collected from a certain house.

According to a statement by Brig Leonard Hlathi, provincial spokesperson for the police, the discovery sparked an investigation into the matter to determine the origin of these body parts.

The suspects’ arrest was welcomed by the community, and it was again encouraged to work with the police in order to curb any form of crime.
