MBOMBELA - The Mpumalanga SAPS has strongly condemned an incident of murder in which a woman and a man was killed.

Allegedly, the woman was shot by her boyfriend who then turned the gun on himself.

This incident is believed to have occurred sometime between July 2 and 4 in Kwaggafontein.

According to a media statement released by the Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brig Leonard Hlathi, the police interviewed a neighbour who said he became concerned when he had not seen the couple for a period of time, but noticed that their garage door remained opened. He then contacted one of his neighbours’ family members, and upon their arrival they discovered the bodies of the 36-year-old woman and the 60-year-old man in the house.

The couple was certified dead by medical personnel who attended the scene with the police, and a case of murder, as well as an inquest, was subsequently opened.

Both bodies showed gunshot wounds taken to the torso, and a pistol that had belonged to the man was found on his body. Nothing seemed to have been taken from the house and there was no sign of forced entry.

The police called on all men to assist the government in its mission to eliminate acts of gender-based violence, and recommended couples to resolve any disagreements amicably instead of resorting to violence.
