Head-on collision claims seven lives on the R40

UPDATE: The eighth person passed while being transported to the hospital.

BUSHBUCKRIDGE - Seven people died and one person was critically injured during a head-on collision between two sedans on Saturday at approximately 21:00. The accident occurred on the R40 between Dwarsloop and Violetbank in Bushbuckridge.

Each vehicle had four occupants. The deceased included the drivers of both vehicles. The Jaws of Life had to be used to remove the bodies and free the injured passenger.

The cause of the crash is yet to be established and the investigation is underway.
