DNA tests that were conducted on the remains of the eight (8) victims of the N11 road accident have been finalized. The tests were concluded on Friday, August 16. The badly burnt state of the bodies made the process extremely challenging.

The families of the deceased are expected to converge at Middelburg Hospital to claim the remains of their loved ones on Tuesday, August 20. The process will commence at 08:00. ALS Mine management will also be in attendance. Afterwards, the families will commence with funeral arrangements.

The process of collecting DNA samples of the victims’ family members was overseen by the Victim Identification Center of the SAPS. The eight were killed in a head-on collision last month  between a truck and a minibus on the N11 Road between Middelburg and Hendrina. Nine people, all passengers in the taxi, died on impact.
