MPUMALANGA - Godfrey Sifiso Tony Lukhele (33) was arrested by members of the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit on Tuesday on fraud charges.

It is alleged that Lukhele had submitted two fraudulent VAT returns to the South African Revenue Service in March 2013 amounting to R3 million. After his arrest he missed four court appearances while he was out on bail of R70 000. His bail has since been forfeited to the state.

Lukhele’s alleged criminal activities started in 2013 and continued up to 2014/2015 during which time he committed fraud in Mbombela by targeting the same institution. He appeared briefly in the Nelspruit District Court yesterday, July 9, for the matter to be placed on the court roll.

The case was postponed to July 19, in the same court. Lukhele was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
