Massive drug bust results in three arrests

BARBERTON - Three men, accused of dealing in drugs, are expected to appear in the local Magistrate's Court tomorrow, May 21. The suspects were arrested at 06:00 on Saturday, May 19 by the local police and the White River K9 Unit. The trio were caught in possession of heroin with an estimated street value of R76,5 million.

This came after law-enforcement had received information about three suspect vehicles en route from Mozambique via eSwatini to Gauteng.

The silver Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai H1 minibus and Nissan X-Trailer were spotted and stopped by the police on the Barberton/Badplaas Road (R38). During a thorough search drugs were discovered in two of the vehicles. It was hidden in various locations, ranging from false compartments to the tyres.  A total of 51 packets of heroin were seized and the trio was arrested.

The Provincial Commissioner for Mpumalanga, Lt Gen Mondli Zuma, lauded the collaboration between the police and the community which had resulted in the bust.
