BARBERTON - The local SAPS have launched an investigation after one of their vehicles was presumably deliberately set alight.

The incident took place at approximately 04:00 this morning (January 16) in the parking area opposite the station. Station Commander, Col Johan Engelbrecht, said the motive for the arson was still unclear at this stage. “Fortunately,  the officers on duty noticed the flames and managed to extinguish the fire,” he said.

Engelbrecht requested any community member who might have any information on the incident to come forward and contact him on 071-353-3882.

The informant’s identity will be protected at all times.
