Community cooperation applauded by Police management
MPUMALANGA - Police management in the province hereby applaud cooperation by the community for not taking the law into their own hands when dealing with criminals.
This came after a 38-year-old man was arrested yesterday (September 27) at approximately 10:00 for raping a 4-year-old girl in a shack at the informal settlement in Standerton.
It is alleged that the suspect was spotted by a group of kids who peeped through a hole and witnessed what was going on in the shack. The kids then rushed to the elders to report the matter and the police were called. The man was arrested and will appear before the Standerton Magistrate’s Court tomorrow facing a charge of rape.
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old Mohau Malope was handed a life sentence for murder and a 10-year jail sentence for rape by the Mhala Regional Court on 21 September 2016.
The Regional Court heard that in January 2013, Malope dragged and forced a 30-year-old woman who was on her way home at Ratanang Trust near Casteel outside Bushbuckridge, into a nearby bush. He then raped and killed the victim, where after he was apprehended by the community and handed to the police.
Police management are making an appeal to other communities not to take the law into their own hands but to report and hand over perpetrators to the police.
