Man appears in court for car theft
Amsterdam – A 22-year-old man appeared in the Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court after he was busted for car theft on Saturday evening. Mthobisi Piet Nkosi was busted after on-duty police at Amsterdam received a telephonic complaint from the Lothair SAPS, asking for assistance and to be on the lookout for a white Nissan Double Cab bakkie which was reportedly stolen at Lothair at about 21:45.
The members’ hard work paid off when at around 23:30, Tracker, the SAPS partner in the fight against vehicle theft, came in the picture and indicated where the signal of the stolen vehicle was coming from. The members acted swiftly and proceeded to the address mentioned by the Tracker operatives. Upon arrival at the alleged house, they found the gates locked, however they jumped over the fence and heard the bakkie still idling inside the garage. They the garage door and found the suspect still inside the vehicle. He then drove out of the garage at high speed but the police were already waiting for him outside and the gate was closed, hence he could not get out of the yard and was cornered and arrested.
The suspect was remanded in custody and the case was postponed to Monday, October 3 for bail application.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma hailed this success as a result of the beneficial partnership between the SAPS and Tracker. “It is interesting to note that the arrest comes barely a day after the Tracker Awards, celebrating outstanding performance by our members in the fight against vehicle crime in the province” said the Provincial Commissioner.
