MEC Shongwe calls for no bail for Myburgh abductors
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe commended the police for the swift arrest of two men allegedly involved in the hijacking and kidnapping of Mrs Annatjie Myburgh.
Myburgh’s body was found on Saturday, June 18 a few kilometres outside White River after she disappeared on June 15.
Community members and private security companies joined the police to look for Myburgh and her abductors.
Shongwe also commended and welcomed the support by community members and the security companies who were involved in the search and encouraged other communities to be involved in the fight against crime.
He pleaded with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development to refuse bail to these dangerous suspects and also made a call to the police to gather enough evidence to secure a conviction.
“We must always work hard to maintain the trust that communities have towards our police and this could only be done if we remove heartless and dangerous people who continue to terrorise innocent people. We can only do this with the support of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and enough evidence that link the suspects to the crime,” he said.
Shongwe sends condolences to the family of Mrs Myburgh.
