The Butterfly Box, a pop-up charity shop stocked with new and previously-loved designer and top quality men and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories at budget prices, debuts in Johannesburg this week at advertising agency, FCB Joburg, and makes its 1st birthday appearance in Cape Town at FCB Cape Town.

Created by well-known Cape Town businesswoman, Jenny Handley, it gives fashionistas, shopaholics and bargain hunters the opportunity to indulge their passion while contributing towards deserving causes.

The Butterfly Box spreads its wings on Friday October 7 at FCB Joburg’s offices at 164 Katherine Street, Sandown, where brands like Clive Rundle, Michelle Ludek, SassyChic, Sitting Pretty, Adam & Eve, Louboutin, Pringle, Polo, Louis Vuitton and many others will be hanging from its racks and stocked on its shelves.

Shoppers at FCB Joburg can purchase using cash or their credit cards but those at FCB Cape Town are limited to transacting with cash. The address for those Capetonians looking to shop until they drop is 5 Armadale Street, Woodstock.

Handley trialled the first Butterfly Box in Cape Town last year, where it has proven very successful.

“The Butterfly Box creates an opportunity for ‘fashion with compassion’ because it provides those who regularly replenish their wardrobes with exquisite clothes, shoes and accessories – as well as various corporate involved in the fashion industry – with the chance to give special items a second life in a way that contributes towards improving the lives of others,” she said.

The two Butterfly Boxes, which will come and go at various venues in Johannesburg and Cape Town, will benefit the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa (HPCA) and The Lonely Road Foundation.

The HPCA’s mission is to promote quality in life, dignity in death and support in bereavement for all living with a life-threatening illness by supporting member hospices and partner organisations.

The Lonely Road Foundation’s is to build the capacity of community members, organisations and revenue-generating projects so that they are capable of implementing and sustaining programmes for securing happy and healthy childhoods for the orphans and vulnerable children in their care.
