NELSPRUIT - A 29 year old Police Constable stationed at Lydenburg has been arrested and due to appear before the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court tody (Monday, October 23) facing two counts of attempted murder.

According to information, the suspect is alleged to have shot and wounded a 24-year-old woman as well as a three-months-old baby girl. The incident took place in Lydenburg at approximately19:40 on Saturday, October 22, when the victim and her baby were on their way to Duma Village.

The suspect was apparently in a Toyota Tazz with his friends as well as his wife when all suddenly saw him alighting from the vehicle and without a word started firing shots aimed at the 24-year-old woman. His wife and friends managed to disarm him and reported the matter to the police. Both victims were transported to hospital for medical attention.

In a separate incident, two Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) students are currently in hospital after they were found bleeding profusely in one of the rooms at Urban Cove TUT residence. Both are still unconscious.

The students, a male and female, aged between 21 and 25, were found on Sunday in the early hours of the morning in the male student's room in a pool of blood. It appears as if the students were both stabbed with a knife. According to information, the victims were in a relationship.

The matter is still under investigation to determine what might have led to the stabbing.
