Road crash claims the lives of five family members
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Petrus Ngomane sends condolences to the Mona family who lost five of its family members in a road crash that occurred over the weekend.
The family was travelling to Pretoria from Mpumalanga on Saturday at around 09:00 when the driver of the bakkie they were travelling in lost control of the vehicle. It overturned on the N4 Road between Bronkorspruit and Pretoria.
Three passengers who were children were decleared dead on the scene while the other two passed away in hospital. Five other occupants including the driver were admitted in Steve Biko Hospital with serious injuries. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
The victims are residents of the province and MEC Ngomane will visit the family today (17 October) in Mahushu near Hazyview to convey his condolences. The MEC has also wished a speedy recovery to the injured members of the family.
On the same day, two other people died in two separate road incidents in the province. The first one occurred at 07:00 on the KaMagugu Road and claimed one life of a sedan driver after it collided with two minibus taxis.
The second crash occurred in the evening on the Schoemanskloof Road and claimed one life of a driver of a sedan that lost control and collided with a tree. A passenger who was also in the sedan survived with serious injuries.
MEC Ngomane calls on motorists to be cautious on the road and always rest when undertaking long distance trips. According to him, fatigue is one of the contributing factor to road crashes therefore it is important for motorists to always consider resting at every 200km or 2hours in order to save the lives of innocent people.
