The Karoo Winter Wool Festival is set to return to Middelburg, Eastern Cape, from July 3 - 5, 2025, promising a vibrant celebration of wool and mohair, reflecting rich cultural tapestry of the Karoo. Now in its fourth year, the festival continues to champion sustainable fashion, local craftsmanship, and the enduring spirit of the region’s wool-producing communities.

A celebration of natural fibres and Karoo heritage
The festival offers a unique opportunity to experience the heart of South Africa’s wool industry. Attendees can explore the Wool World exhibition, featuring a diverse array of wool and mohair products that celebrate the versatility and beauty of these natural fibres.

Entertainment and cultural highlights
A major highlight of this year’s festival is the live performance by renowned South African musician Chris Chameleon on Friday evening, July 4. Known for his dynamic stage presence and eclectic musical style, Chameleon's performance is anticipated to be a standout event. Tickets for the concert are priced at R100 and can be purchased through Quicket.

Workshops and educational experiences
The festival offers a range of workshops and demonstrations aimed at sharing knowledge and skills related to wool and natural fibres. From spinning and knitting to sustainable farming practices, these sessions provide hands-on experiences for attendees. Workshops are scheduled from July 3 to July 5, with limited spaces available to provide an intimate learning environment.

Family-friendly activities and local cuisine
Beyond the fibre-focused events, the festival boasts a variety of family-friendly activities, including agricultural stalls, a food market featuring authentic Karoo cuisine, and a children's area.

The "Kampvuur Kuier" on Friday evening offers a traditional Karoo gathering around the campfire, while Saturday features a big-screen viewing of the Springbok vs Italy rugby match, fostering a communal spirit among attendees.

Promoting sustainability and local economies
At its core, the Karoo Winter Wool Festival is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices within the wool industry. By showcasing the entire wool value chain, from farm to finished product, the festival emphasizes the importance of environmentally friendly production methods and supports the socio-economic well-being of rural communities in the Karoo.

Ticket information and accessibility
Festival tickets are affordably priced at R50 per day for adults and R20 for children under 12, with free entry for children under two. Tickets grant access to the main festival grounds, including exhibitions, markets, and general activities.

Additional fees apply for specific workshops and the Chris Chameleon concert. Tickets can be purchased online via Quicket.
