Alleged bogus doctor arrested while on duty
EMALAHLENI – Kano Mireille Mumina (38), an alleged bogus doctor, appeared in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on September 12, after being arrested on 11 September at a medical facility in Witbank where she was apparently practiced medicine.
A team comprising the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, Witbank SAPS and Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) officials, descended on the premises after being tipped off that one of the doctors at this facility did not have valid credentials.
Mumina could not produce her practising papers and her details also did not appear on the HPCSA register. She was arrested on the spot and charged for fraud and contravening Section 17(1) of the Health Professional Act 56/1974. A number of files were also seized to assist in the ongoing investigation.
The case has been postponed to October 12 pending further investigation. Mumina has been granted R1 000 bail.
