Alleged killer of eight-year-old facing full might of law
MBOMBELA – A manhunt for a suspect sought in connection with the kidnapping and murder of an eight-year-old girl, Nokubonga Nonyane from Mahushu near Hazyview, yielded positive results when the 23-year-old young man was finally arrested.
Police worked assiduously around the clock, following all possible leads until the suspect was tracked to his hideout in Sabie yesterday.
Nokubonga was allegedly last seen playing with her peers on Friday, June 8, at approximately 15:30, when she mysteriously disappeared. Her lifeless body was found dumped in a ditch in the Numbi area, on Monday June 11, by passers-by who alerted the police.
The suspect will appear in the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 26 June 2018, on charges of kidnapping, rape and murder.
Meanwhile, 10-year-old Sanele Kamo Nkabinde who went missing on Sunday, 17 June 2018, when he was last seen playing soccer on the street with his friends, has been found. Information at police disposal revealed that Kamo went to his father’s home without informing his mother.
The Provincial Commissioner for Police, Ltt Gen Mondli Zuma, applauded the working relationship between the police and the community which led to the arrest of the suspect. “In all other outstanding cases where children have been reported missing, we still appeal to the community to work together with the police and assist with information that may bring closure to such cases. We also urge parents who have children but are not living together to communicate and coordinate the visits of their children,” said Zuma.
