Mother of newborn sought for concealment of birth

OGIES – Members of the South African Police Service at Phola, near Ogies, are looking for the mother of a newborn baby boy who was apparently dumbed in a sewage system.

A municipal worker discovered the burnt body of the baby in a sewage drain in the area at about 10:00 on Thursday, 25 January.

The worker immediately summoned the police who then activated all the role-players to the scene. The baby was declared dead by paramedics on the scene.

A case of concealment of birth has been opened at Phola SAPS and the police are busy with the investigation. The police appeal to members of the community in helping them to identify the mother.
