Quench your thirst amongst family

Local pub-crawlers and party animals are all too familiar with the waterhole in Rocky’s Drift next to the R40. Although the venue has changed names multiple times over the years, it has always offered a welcome relief to thirsty travellers on a hot summer’s day.
However, nowadays this well-known beacon boasts a brand-new name - Thirsty's - and new management, and the service offering can best be described as fresh and vibey and a cut above the rest. It is well worth a visit.

New owners and managers, Hugo Barkhuizen and Charmaine Jordaan (in photo above), have taken over the pub and restaurant in February 2016. However, doors only opened officially in August 2016, after a lengthy period of refurbishment.  The regular clientele mostly comprises of locals, and the latter all jumped in and did their part to lend a helping hand. These efforts proved that patrons quickly become family here and can be assured of a welcoming environment where they can destress and escape from life’s challenges, even if it is only for a while.

The bar area received a facelift and the whole kitchen was redone to perfection. This paved the way for an exceptional and affordable bar menu. Hugo prides himself on offering patrons a wide range of very affordable beverages. A trend-setting shooter selection is also available. Chef Sipho has been part and parcel of the running of the kitchen for over 10 years and took like a duck to water in this brand-new space.  The bathrooms also received a facelift. Charmaine’s fresh and feminine touch is evident throughout.

The deck area was also extended and an intimate party venue is nearing completion, making it the perfect child-friendly venue for parents in search of some relaxation. It can host up to 50 people and has direct access to the pub and bathrooms. It is perfect for any private occasion, be it a baby shower or birthday celebration. A kid’s play area will also be completed within the next few weeks. Charmaine also offers catering upon request and will present clients with a very affordable package, depending on the type of event. There is ample parking in front of the pub and car guards ensure peace of mind on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Regular events include a karaoke night every Wednesday from 20h00 till late, during which the courageous and daring can vent their frustrations over the mic. It is also the perfect sports bar to enjoy the year’s cricket and rugby action and all team supporters are welcome, regardless of their team loyalties.
The pub also offers a dance floor with superb sound and lightening where you can sokkie or rock the night away to the sound of cool beats.

Thirsty’s is also a local pool-league venue where the Lowveld’s best players test their mettle against one another. The league welcomes new players. If you believe your ball sense is on par, why not join? Dart players can also hone their skills here.

At the heart of it all is the loyal clients. Strangers become friends here, and friends, in turn, family. The couple invites all to pop in and experience the warm and welcoming atmosphere first-hand. Bring all and sundry, and revel together in laughter and friendly banter to make you forget of your worries for a while. See you there!

Contact Charmaine on 076-192-5968 for any inquiries or bookings for events.
You will find them in Rocky Drift next to the R40.
