Suspects arrested for armed robbery in Barberton area
BARBERTON - The police’s detective branch in Barberton embarked on a tracing operation in search of suspects responsible for business robberies committed around the area. Their hard work yielded positive results as it led to the apprehension of three wanted suspects, aged between 25 and 30.
The trio was arrested during the early hours of Wednesday, July 19, and were positively linked with eight cases of business robbery. In all the incidents, the suspects were reported to have gone to business premises, pretended to be customers and in the process, held staff and owners at gunpoint and then robbed them.
During the arrest, the trio was found in possession of two firearms, one of which was robbed from a police officer at Elukwatini during April. A profiling of the suspects to check their involvement in similar and other crimes is in process.
The trio, Themba Khoza (25), Mthokozisi Dlamini (30) and Zethu Madlopha (26), appeared in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Friday facing eight counts of business robbery. They were remanded in custody until July 27, pending further investigation.
