Barberton community fed up with drug dealers
During the second meeting of the drug awareness campaign, initiated by Melissa Venter from Ministry Against Drugs (#MAD), many questions were put to the police by the community.
Barberton Station Commander, Lt Col Ndlovu addressed the community and invited them to assist the police by coming forth with information that can lead to the arrest of drug dealers. The meeting was once again held in the hall of the Full Gospel Church.
As Lt Col Ndlovu pointed out, it is easy to find fault with the SAPD if something happens to your child, but who allowed that child to hang out in the bars and on the streets during all hours of the night?
The message was clear – know your child’s whereabouts and habits and if you become suspicious take action immediately – do not wait until your child loses his life or is too far gone to respond to help.
During the recent months, the Barberton SAPD has made numerous arrests where people were either found in possession of or dealing with drugs.
Take responsibility for the whereabouts of your offspring and take responsibility for other young or under aged kids. When you spot young girls walking in the street at night when they should be at home, make alarm. Should you see them visiting bars and clubs where they shouldn’t be hanging out, pick up the phone and call their parents or the police, especially if you see them leaving with people they did not arrive with.
Three recovering young Barbertonian drug addicts spoke about the road they traveled while in the grip of drugs. According to their testimonies, it would be safe to conclude that within this quite town, there is a festering pool of dealers who would not blink an eye should harm come to any of their ‘customers’.
